I did this guy a little while ago and just had him sitting around, so I figured I'd submit him to add some snaky goodness to my gallery.
Character from a little mini-snake-story I've made for these guys. Including the emerald tree boa lady and another cobra I have yet to unveil. This guy being a cobra with kingsnake-inspired colours, aptly named Malik.

Technique ImpactYou requested a critique so here it is:
To start off I really like the background, it is a colour spectrum starting off a chocolate brown and ending in a golden texture closer to the snake himself. Though the background may be dark in some areas, you have incorporated a warmish glow that prevents the him from blending in, which tells me that you have thought about the colours very carefully before applying them. The composition is therefore very good since the snake is separated from the background, but in a more subtle way. Moreover the golden light that has spread onto the snake brings out the shininess of the scales, therefore giving texture.
The only bone that I've got to pick without being in any way negative is to me at some point along the snake's body the diameter seems to widen a bit. It may just be me, but I think I can see that.
All in all, I really think this piece of artwork is brilliant with the varying colours, which combine together to create a smooth finish on the image as a whole. You should be very pleased with the result.
