Build-Your-Own Reference Sheet Commission for :iconreaper-kallina: featuring Tai, the tiger dragon!  Long ref sheet is long.

This guy's design is really rad, and it was awesome working on him!  I love his natural colours and organic design, what with the combination of the mane, stripes, and feathered wings.  I was asked to make him more dragon-like in appearance, and I liked working with the balance of making him look draconic while maintaining the feline, mammalian sort of look, mainly in his general physique and face.

Check my front page for links to Commission information and availability.

Thanks, Kallina!  Hope you like!

This....I have no words. I was anticipating it would be a great sheet, but this just blows my expectations clean outta the water! I've looked over this sheet several times while I was at work, and there is not a single thing I can find that could be classed as 'wrong' about his design. In fact, this is nothing short of a perfect rendition of how I've always envisaged him to look!

Where to start, of course, but at the head? The mane, horns and ears are quite simply excellent, meshing together perfectly with nothing looking even the slightest bit out of place. He actually looks like he's smirking, simply because of how one stripe continues on from the corner of his mouth, which is a little detail I actually chuckled about upon seeing, but at the same time very much like. His beard is spot on too, exactly the right kinda size for his head, and those whiskers. Just, those whiskers. They don't look remotely out of place, in fact their size and shape suits him rather well, I find!

Next up: body shape. Absolute perfection, to me. He looks like he's carrying a lithe, agile build while at the same time noticeably having some kind of musculature so he isn't blown around by a simple breeze! The little details on his chest/belly/tail scales are a very nice touch, giving them an armoured look while at the same time giving an air of flexibility thanks to all of the much smaller scales skirting each 'plate', if you will.

The wings have a breathtaking amount of detail on them, to put it simply, and I'm stunned at just how many feathers you've actually drawn on them! (In a good way, I might add, it must have taken quite some time to get them to that level of detail, surely? If not, count me even more impressed!). They look just right for his overall size, too, and as the description says, perfect for high speed flight. The tail is also equally impressive, with that flourish of fur at the end, giving it a presence far beyond what the tail's actual size might convey.

Now for the hands and feet. I will admit I've never been the biggest fan of padded hands, but lo and behold you've managed to make them look natural and without them appearing to stick out as if hindering the motion of said hands. I also love how you've managed to maintain the semi-feral look, while at the same time keeping them quite clearly able to manipulate objects as we humans would. As for the footpaws, absolutely spot on. I'd spent the longest time trying to figure out exactly how they should be, whether they should be more tiger-like or more dragon-like, but lo and behold, once again they look both natural yet suiting his overall design brilliantly! I also admit I was never the biggest fan of dewclaws on anthros, and once more my opinion's been swayed by the examples on this ref sheet, as they again look natural but relatively unintrusive at the same time! And okay I like them for other reasons but we're not mentioning those on dA :paranoid:

And those descriptions are wonderful. Masterfully done, I must say, I wasn't expecting to see those there, but they beautifully sum up everything which they describe, and certainly in far better terms than I could ever hope to achieve. I was very impressed by the description about the wings, especially given how it matches perfectly with how I've always envisaged him as a flier- perhaps a little poor to get off the ground, but once he does, good luck getting away!

....Heh, so much for no words, eh? This was truly worth the wait, even with paypal and dA conspiring against us, and I'm absolutely in love with the ref sheet. No amount of words can convey my thanks, but hopefully this wall of text goes a way to doing so! (And I apologise if I seem like I'm ranting, I do just love it that much, haha)
